About Me

Dear Visitors of my homepage.

I am glad that you look at my page about garden plants in Thailand.

For several years I live with my huuband in Southern Thailand. When I started to make out land arable, I got a lot of plants given by friends, they just dug them up or cut off from their own garden.

I have had no idea what the names of the plants were, whic requirements they have to care, and suitable location. Well, the relevant literature was not even in the bookshops to find. Thus the distribution of plants was carried out on our land randomly and probably more interms of whether the plant would look nice on a chosen location. The method of trial and error soom showed their effects. Many of the plants have developed well, but some died, some are not grown at all.

While visiting the botanical garden Spicy Garden in Baan Nateen in our neighbourhood, I met the owner Piet Ruitjers, the pharmacist and botanist. He educated me generously and lent me up to 30kg of books referring on many aspects of botany. That was the beginning. I spent many nights in order to even figure out how my plants were called in my garden. On the day I relocated everything that I had, die to my ignorance, put in the wrong locations. And, I wanted to more about all the plants.

I enjoy it, to augment the existing plants and I am glad when I hear about my plants do well in my friends gardens.

And now I see the beautiful plants in Thailand with open eyes. If I'm on a road, it is not only beautiful green all around me, now I see the plants and recognise them.

On our about 6000 sqm land I have now over 250 specias of plants, and growing all the time.

Over the years I've learned a lot about the local flora to facts compiled and linked it with my own experiences in the tropical garden, I would like to share with other enthusiasts. The website does not claim to be scientific. But I have tried to reseach very carefully. In many cases I had to ask experts for advice.

I hope that this website is a useful tool to learn about tropical plants in Thailand. Everything is tailored to the climatic conditions in Southern Thailand.

The photos are mostly from my own garden. If my plants are too small to get representative images, I have made some from the area around Krabi or from the botanical gardens in Bangkok.

I hope you enjoy my website.
